The Truth About Invisalign

In the last several years, we’ve seen some really incredible advances in orthodontics. Improvements to existing appliances like braces, revolutionary new treatment options, and innovative techniques mean there’s never been a better time to straighten your smile! Here at Davis & Goldberg Orthodontics, we’re proud to offer our patients a variety of high-quality, cutting-edge treatments, including Invisalign aligners

This unique system is our most popular alternative to traditional braces and moves the teeth using a series of clear plastic aligners. For patients wanting a more subtle way to improve their oral health, Invisalign can be an excellent option.

Every treatment comes with its pros and cons! If you’re considering clear aligners, you should fully understand how they work and what they can achieve before making an informed decision. With that in mind, here’s the truth about Invisalign!

Invisalign can treat most of the same issues that braces can—but not all of them.

Invisalign clear aligners and traditional braces are very different from each other, but they both move your teeth into the desired positions over time using gentle pressure that gradually increases. When used for many of the most common orthodontic issues, Invisalign can be just as effective as braces. Cases that are particularly severe or complex may not respond to aligners as well as they would traditional braces. When you schedule a free consultation with our High Point or Greensboro office, our doctors will able to determine what treatment method is best for your unique smile, goals, and lifestyle.

Invisalign gives you a more subtle way to straighten your smile

The brackets used with today’s braces are far sleeker and more aesthetically pleasing than any that came before them, but they’re still much more obvious than Invisalign clear aligners are. We have many image-conscious teens and adults choose Invisalign for just that reason! If you’re already unhappy with the way your teeth look or feel, the last thing you want is to make your smile stand out even more. Since Invisalign aligners are, most people won’t even notice them. They also give you a better view of your teeth as they begin to straighten, which is a great incentive to keep up the good work!

The Truth About Invisalign

Patient compliance is a must

In order to be successful, any kind of orthodontic treatment relies on a commitment from the patient. This is crucial when it comes to a removable appliance like clear aligners!  Traditional braces are a fixed orthodontic appliance, which means the brackets are bonded to the front surface of the teeth, leaving them to do their job without too much effort on the part of the patient.

Because Invisalign aligners are removable, they must be worn 20-22 hours a day throughout the treatment process for the system to work properly. The aligners also need to be switched out for the next in the series every 1-2 weeks, depending on the treatment plan. Patients who neglect to follow the guidelines for Invisalign won’t see the results they desire, and they may face longer treatment times in general.

Speaking of treatment times, there’s no “one size fits all” answer as to how long a patient will need orthodontic treatment. Every case is different and each patient will respond to treatment in their own way. In general, however, most people will wear Invisalign aligners for anywhere from 4–15 months, with 7–30 aligners typically used over the course of the treatment. The good news is, this is actually slightly faster than the average time spent in braces!

Invisalign is comparable in cost to traditional braces

There are several factors associated with the overall cost of any treatment, from the complexity of the case to the treatment option and quite a few things in between. While traditional braces tend to be the most cost-effective method of straightening your smile, the Invisalign system is also extremely affordable

Here at Davis & Goldberg Orthodontics, we’ll only recommend the best treatment option for your unique smile. We believe everyone should have access to the high-quality orthodontic care they deserve, and offer an in-office payment plan for every budget. This includes:

  • in-house financing, no interest fee charged.
  • flexible down payment amounts.
  • monthly payment plan for the remaining balance of the total treatment fee.
  • payments can be made via cash, check, or credit card.
  • a courtesy fee discount is available for additional family members who begin treatment.

If you have dental insurance that will cover orthodontic treatment, we’ll be happy to verify your benefits and file on your behalf to ensure you get the maximum coverage.

What happens once aligner treatment is complete?

No matter what kind of orthodontic treatment you choose, your teeth will always remember their previous place in your mouth. Over time, they will naturally begin to drift back towards those positions if there’s nothing there to stop them. This is exactly why retainers are essential for lasting results!  Once your treatment is complete, our office will provide you with a retainer. To keep your newly straightened teeth in place, you’ll need to wear it exactly as directed by our doctors.
